PIGEON GUANO REMOVAL SERVICE

BIRD DROPPINGS CAN POSE A PARTICULAR HEALTH HAZARD

Birds on buildings or in public areas are well known for becoming a nuisance and for spreading diseases. High rise buildings and derelict buildings can provide the ultimate shelter for birds that are looking to nest. Birds that are well known for doing this and becoming a nuisance are pigeons and seagulls.

Bird droppings can pose a particular health risk when you come into contact with it and here we will discuss the importance of removing pigeon guano.

Due to its acidic content bird droppings from pigeons in particular can result in permanent damage to your buildings. We have worked on a number of pigeon guano removal projects over the last few years from people that have a large amount of pigeon droppings on their work premises, but recently we have been attending more pigeon guano removal jobs for people that are living in flats and have uncovered balconies where pigeons are visiting and causing a mess.

WHAT HEALTH HAZARDS DOES PIGEON GUANO CARRY?

Pigeons carry a number of diseases and some that you may have heard of are, Listeria, E-Coli and Salmonella all of which can be transmitted if you come into contact with the droppings or the birds themselves.

Coming into contact with bird droppings can also cause Ocular Histoplasmosis which is also known as the bird dropping disease. This respiratory disease can be fatal and it results from a fungus growing in dried bird droppings.

Crytococcus meningitis is a yeast like fungus that can also be picked up in soil contaminated by pigeon droppings, people can become infected if they breathe it in and in some cases it can cause blindness.

This is why it is important to not try and ‘do it yourself’ when it comes to removing bird droppings and instead call in the experts.

OUR SERVICE

Before we begin cleaning on a site that has a guano problem we will begin a full site inspection. The inspection will help us to identify any potential dangers to our workforce when beginning the job and will enable us to have the right protective clothing on during the removal process.

We will look for any evidence of nesting and then we will be able to begin the cleaning operation. Since cleaning a number of pigeon guano problems we are proud to say that they often don’t return!
