Pigeons carry a number of diseases and some that you may have heard of are, Listeria, E-Coli and Salmonella all of which can be transmitted if you come into contact with the droppings or the birds themselves.
Coming into contact with bird droppings can also cause Ocular Histoplasmosis which is also known as the bird dropping disease. This respiratory disease can be fatal and it results from a fungus growing in dried bird droppings.
Crytococcus meningitis is a yeast like fungus that can also be picked up in soil contaminated by pigeon droppings, people can become infected if they breathe it in and in some cases it can cause blindness.
This is why it is important to not try and ‘do it yourself’ when it comes to removing bird droppings and instead call in the experts.
